There was an alarming home invasion in Belize City on this weekend. The drama unfolded inside the residence of thirty eight year old lumber yard employee Linsford McKenzie. McKenzie told 7News that around nine on Saturday night he was home with his wife, young daughter and son at the corner of Hibiscus and Western Avenue when four men armed with a gun stormed into his home.
Linsford McKenzie, Victim of Home Invasion
“Four guys came to my house with guns and they stomped open my door and put the gun to my head and told me to lay down on the floor because they wanted my gold ring. I told them I didn’t have the gold ring and they said they wanted it so I said to go and look in the house for it and see if they could find it. So they went and got the gold ring out of the room.”
Jacqueline Godwin,
“Were you able to recognize these men?”
Linsford McKenzie,
“I didn’t catch their face because it was night and due to the gun was at my head I couldn’t catch their faces so that is it.”
Jacqueline Godwin,
“Were you the only one at home at the time?”
Linsford McKenzie,
“Well my wife was home but she was on the verandah and she hauled into the cement house the same time and my son was out on the street, he was standing up.”
Jacqueline Godwin,
“Were you surprised that this thing actually happened inside your house?”
Linsford McKenzie,
“I surprised yes because never yet people come and try to hold me up because I work hard for my money and buy my thing and don’t abstract nobody. If anybody asks me for a five or ten dollars I give them and so I don’t expect them to come and do that to me. A next thing is I think it is somebody that knows me.”
Jacqueline Godwin,
“Why?”
Linsford McKenzie,
“Because you have people laugh and talk with you and they have it in mind against you. It is somebody who knows me set it up. That is what I would say more or less.”
Jacqueline Godwin,
“Do you know if the police have any leads in this case?”
Linsford McKenzie,
“Well the police are on an investigation so far right now but they said they will get back to me and call me back and let me know more or less what is happening. I have already left the paper at JLs and JEC to look out if should in case they take the ring there they can how you call it.”
Jacqueline Godwin,
“How does the ring look?”
Linsford McKenzie,
“The ring is a big gold ring. It has four stones. It has one stone come out and it has a lion head mark inside of it and some next rings which are nugget rings, one graduation ring, and a ring with a black stone with an eagle on it. In all it is ten rings they took and my blackberry and a gold plated watch.
All I would want them to do is just give me back my items, no problem, no press charge or nothing. If I don’t get back my things I might press charges but I want back my things because I work hard. I have been riding cart from way back and they are trying to bring me down. As a Belizean we shouldn’t suppose to bring down Belizeans, we are supposed to help out one another. It is just people who are watching you and player hating.”
Sources tell 7News that the police were given the name of an individual who may have able to help them recover the stolen jewellery and we understand that person is now being sought.
