Jacqueline Godwin Reporting,
The blood stains on the side walk and this cement fence marks the spot where thirty three year old Honduran national Samuel Sanchez better known as Billy was gun down and killed. Police initial reveal that Samuel Sanchez was standing near this pedestrian crossing on cemetery road when two men on separate bicycles rode up to him and one fired several shots at Samuel Sanchez. Despite being hit multiple times all over the body Samuel Sanchez managed to still walk a few yards away before he finally collapsed.
Gertrude Martinez, Aunt of Murder Victim
“But he really look bad, one of his eyes was missing. So we really don’t know much because I asked the man who was in charge and he told us it is today we would find out because all we could see was that one eye was missing, that’s it.”
The victim’s aunts Gertrude Martinez and Norma Martinez Lorenzo say while they are certain why their nephew was killed but strongly believe his troubled past may have finally caught up with him.
Gertrude Martinez,
“So we nuh really shocked because they said you live by the gun, you live by the gun and what you sow you reap because he did things to so we won’t swear on TV and we know what he did in the past and then he went to jail and he went to spend the time and he went to pay for what he did and he came out and was changing, he was trying to be a different person, because people were still tantalizing him and wanted to see him back in jail but then he tried not to go back.”
Jacqueline Godwin,
“So you think it is something from the past may have led to him being killed?”
Norma Martinez Lorenzo, Aunt
“No because then you have several other things he had problem with, money problems with some other guys and so you could never tell. That night he was going to see about the money and we don’t know if he did reached or what.”
Jacqueline Godwin,
“Oh that same night he was killed?”
Norma Martinez Lorenzo,
“Yes that same night. So you could never tell what actually happened, nobody knows. Only those one who killed him know.”
Jacqueline Godwin,
“But you both say that he was trying to change his life?”
Gertrude Martinez,
“Exactly well that I could say because often he usually comes back here to come give us a little hail now and again because he was working at tourism village. Right before he died, he was working at the tourism village. As far as I know, he was a good person before he went to jail and when he came out he got better but I won’t swear and say he wasn’t doing anything bad because I don’t know what he was doing behind our backs. I won’t swear but to we he was a good person, a good nephew. He is always friendly, always have you the laugh so that is always one thing we could say. But I don’t know what he did behind our backs so I won’t say he is innocent and he did no wrong. He did wrong.”
Belize City police say they have no suspects detained for the murder of Samuel Sanchez. Jacqueline Godwin reporting for 7News.
