It’s the main street in the country’s largest population centre, but daring, armed, broad daylight hold-ups have become a regular occurrence on Albert Street. Well just after five this evening the target was HL’s Burger near the corner of Albert and Prince Streets where the employee, Yvette Flowers, a single mother along with her nine and thirteen year old daughter and son were robbed at gunpoint. The two armed robbers concealed their faces with their t- shirts. Only one of the gunmen wore a hat on his head. According to the traumatized mother the robbers came from the back of the compound.

Yvette Flowers, Robbery Victim
“The way how they come, I was standing up so and the way how they

came, they frightened me because I didn’t expect anyone to come from so.”

Jacqueline Godwin,
“And as soon as they approached you, they just said to give me the money?”

Yvette Flowers,
“Yes with a gun. They pointed the gun at me and said to give them the money and then they saw (her children) and they started to bawl and they put the gun on them and told them to shut up or else they will shot me. And he ran out and he started to bawl but nobody came to help me. Then they broke off the whole draw and they went with it.

They started to cry and when they started to cry the boy told them to shut up and he pointed the gun at them. I told them to shut up and I told them to please don’t shot me because only me they have right now and so the boy went inside and pulled out the draw and broke off the draw and took out the money and they ran to the back with it.

It is the first time this has ever happened. I have been out here like six months working and it has never happened because police are always patrolling and no police were on patrol at that time. Sometimes they sit down here.”

Jacqueline Godwin,
“You will still continue to work?”

Yvette Flowers,
“I have to work because only me and my kids because their father died.”

After terrorizing the two children and their mother, the gunmen left with two to three hundred dollars in cash. The pair of robbers made good their escape by running through the back of the compound.
