And while those assaults on teachers have gone un-checked one man who robbed a teacher is going to jail for it. 22 year old Derrick Sanchez who stole a sling bag from a 24 year old school-teacher Shantel Neal in Ladyville on Tuesday received swift justice when he appeared in court today.
Neal was walking on Perez road on Tuesday night around 7:00 when a man rode up form behind on a bicycle and snatched the bag form off her left shoulder. She identified him and based on the description, Police detained Sanchez shortly after. Seems he knew he had been busted and took police to a bushy area on Seagull Street where he had hidden the bag. The police recovered the bag with all its contents intact; those included $50 in cash, he cell phone and passport, intact.
In court, Sanchez pleaded guilty and told Magistrate Aretha Ford that he was intoxicated when the he committed the crime. That was no excuse and she sentenced him to a year in jail.
