Last night we reported the shocking news of a teacher robbed inside her classroom at Holy Redeemer Primary School. Well what we didn’t know, because the police never reported it, is that last week a similar incident occurred at the Anglican Diocesan Pre-School on Angel Lane. On Monday September 14th, Principal Joy Ross was at class late, waiting again for a parent to pick up a child. That parent eventually came and sometime after 5 pm, Ross was preparing to leave her classroom when a young man armed with a knife approached her from behind. It happened over a week ago but a still shaken Joy Ross told us her ordeal.

Joy Ross, Robbed Inside Classroom
“I heard a voice say, ‘gimme all whe yuh got.’ I turned around and in turning around there was a knife about four to five inches placed by my neck. The thief proceeded and removing all my jewelries. At that time I became calm because I was just thinking about my life then. My grandchild that was in here with me, she ran out to get assistance for her grandmother. After he finished removing my jewelry he decided to go into my bag that was placed by the door to leave. While he was busy in my bag, I decided to slide

beside him through the gate and I ran down the corridor there into the yard shouting for help.

First on hearing the voice behind me, I thought this was my son because he likes to play little tricks. So when I turned around and I did not see my son, then I became very fearful; scared. Thanks to the loving Lord Jesus that I was able to escape along with my grandchild because when I stopped and think like what the teacher said from Holy Redeemer, he could have closed the door with us in here and do whatever or maybe they would have come to find our bodies in here. So I gave God thanks for sparing our lives.

I would never think that a thief would come in to rob in the classroom. We are educating young minds to succeed. I was really shocked and I am still shocked to wonder and think what is happening in our Belizean society. But I would like to send messages to the parents, to be more responsible. You send your child to school, you know the hours your child will be at school, be responsible and come to pick up your child on time. On time is important.”

Principal Joy Ross made a police report. She has been shown a gallery of suspects she won’t recognize her attacker since she was in a state of shock during the ordeal. No arrest has been made in either robberies and police haven’t indicated if the two incidents were committed by the same person.

In fact, police haven’t reported either incident to the media as part of their oppressive new “need to know” information sharing policy which benefits only criminals because one wants to think that if this assault had been reported when it happened last week, teacher Nicolette Bradley at Holy Redeemer might have been more vigilant in her classroom on Tuesday before she was attacked.
