Corozal Police have arrested the man they say killed 59 year old Javier Castillo. Hilberto Hernandez -a 26 year old labourer from San Narciso was arraigned yesterday in the Corozal Magistrate’s Court on a single charge of murder. Bail was denied and he was remanded to the Hattieville Prison until November 3rd.
Javier Castillo, a high school teacher and former town councillor was found dead in his home last saturday morning. He was partially nude and had a black wire tied around his neck. A post mortem revealed he had been strangled.
Castillo’s brother Enrique told us on Monday that he believed his sibling was killed by someone he knew. Police haven’t told us if Hilberto Hernandez knew Javier Castillo and if so what was the nature of their relationship.
