Twenty eight year old George Matthews aka Pete with both his hands heavily bandaged appeared today in number one Magistrate’s Court. He was charged with aggravated burglary. George Matthews pleaded not guilty to the charge and Chief Magistrate Margaret McKenzie offered the accused bail in the amount of four thousand dollars. The case has been adjourned until January twentieth, 2010.
The charge is as a result of an incident that took place inside the home of George Matthews ex common law wife. Police report that on Sunday night Matthews stormed into the home of Tiffany Gideon. George Matthews was reportedly armed with a kitchen knife that police say he used to try and stab Tiffany Gideon. But her new boyfriend Edward Barrow Smith was also at the residence and he intervened. There was a struggle that ended in both the new boyfriend and ex receiving cut wounds.
Court reports are that neighbours intervened on the boyfriend’s behalf and that is when George Matthews was stabbed several times with his own knife. He was taken to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where he remained under police guard. But in what authorities strongly suspect to be an act of revenge, Edward Barrow Smith was killed the following day, after he was chased down by two armed young men and shot and killed only a short distance away from his family’s residence.
