10 people in Caye Caulker are homeless tonight after a fire at midday. But it could have been much worse because two children were trapped in the burning building. The fire started at around 12:30 near the split and in the same area as the devastating fire two weeks ago. Two buildings were destroyed. One of them was an unoccupied motel. The second building was two apartments – both of which were occupied by families. These pictures were provided to us by the San Pedro Sun.
It is believed the fire started in the apartment occupied by Silvin Rosado and his family. His two children were left home alone and had to be rescued

by a neighbour – Frank Reynolds. Luckily no one was hurt. But as we said, 10 people are homeless and nothing was insured. The estimated toll of the damage is $200,000. The Fire Department is still investigating a cause.
And out west, there was another fire today. This one was in the wee hours of the morning and it happened at Bishop Martin RC School building on the Bullet Tree Road in San Ignacio.
Police were on patrol at 2:40 this morning when they saw smoke and later found the building on fire. The Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire but the damage had been done. The building housed three classrooms and the library and everything was destroyed. These pictures were provided to us by the Cayo Star newspaper.
