Popular DJ Bush was supposed to play a gig at the Third Base Nightclub in Independence Village this weekend after the BPFL Championship. But he didn’t because he was in police lockdown. Bush got into a misunderstanding with police as he was driving out of the stadium on Saturday night. He says the next thing he knew they were beating him up for no reason at all.

DJ Busch, Alleges Police Brutality
“This is Inspector Alvarez while PC Martinez and then they locked my hand, see they locked my hand, see the abrasion right here, they locked my hand between the door and vehicle and then people started coming around and a little commotion and people hollering unu chancey and then they took me and threw me on top of the guy’s vehicle who was beside me and afterwards when people started to come and said they were chancey and then everybody started crowding around and then he took me to his vehicle. While that happened they moved my vehicle, the person who was there with me moved my vehicle, they took me behind the field and it is right there they stopped the vehicle Mr. Alvarez told me, ‘Unu think unu dah God when unu deh dah the city but this dah my zone, yuh deh da my zone.’ And then he juked me in my eye and this is when I get this right here and then he told me I have something to charge you for now, I will charge you for gang attire because I had my head tied with a black rag.

He dragged my head down and that is when all of them, from the driver, pounced on me while my head was down; punch me in my back, elbow me, and when they came back to the front on the main street they were driving like everything was ordinary and when I reached to the station Mr. Alvarez pushed me backway and I fell on a bench that they have there and so he told, ‘unu feel unu dah bad man.’ So I tell the man all I want is your name and number. He told me to shut up and two officers who were there I asked them and at that time I didn’t know he was the Inspector who should have been the big man to show example.

So I asked the officers if they will just sit down and have this man the box me and you don’t say nothing. He boxed me again and then he told the officers to get my belongings and dash him in the back and we will deal with him tomorrow. They came back again and they juked me in this eye. I didn’t get charged until last night after 7. I didn’t even get charged by Mr. Alvarez, the next officer PC Martinez charged me.”

Jules Vasquez,
“A lot has to do with attitude and approach, when these officers first saw you and they wanted you to reverse, did you lecture them, did you say, ‘no man I nuh deh pan that?’ Were you humble?”

DJ Busch,
“Definitely. The next man in the other vehicle was explaining to them that all they had to do was reverse and I will come into his space because the next young man was standing right there but their thing was that they are the police and so just reverse this vehicle.”

Jules Vasquez,
“Is it that the police officer that was leading the assault against you was drinking?”

DJ Busch,
“He was drinking, you could have smelt the liquor while he was dealing with me throughout the whole procedure. I smelt liquor on two of them.”

Jules Vasquez,
“This isn’t an idle complaint for you Bush, it is not like you just the come cry to me. You the tek this to the limit.”

DJ Busch,
“Definite I mean I don’t need no publicity and I listen to the radio and I see it on TV that enough time people come and they say police abuse and this but this was a simple thing which could have eased off right there if they had just made us work it out but they came like they are the authority and we run this and so that is what they showed right there. I didn’t have no talk with them because when police hold me I don’t have no talking with them because I know the more you talk to them, the more they get aggravated and I know my rights. I ask the man them what is your name and number and that is how they act the way they acted. I am not doing this for no publicity to try and make the police force look bad because you had good police but you also have police like them who abuse their power.”
