San Ignacio Police scored big last week Tuesday when they busted Gary Sewell with a large stash of high powered weapons including a grenade. And now they’ve scored another major bust – this time its cocaine. Acting again on intelligence, yesterday morning at 10:30 San Ignacio Police set out after a pickup that had crossed the border form Melchor into Benque Viejo. They caught up with it in Santa Elena in front of the Social Security Branch Office and made an impressive find. Officer in Charge of San Ignacio, Senior Superintendent Paul Wade told us more.

Sr. Supt. Paul Wade, Cayo Police
“A pickup truck was occupied by one person, the driver, and a search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 18 packs of suspected cocaine weighing a total of 20.7 kilograms. The driver has been identified as Carlos Johnathon

Gibson, a businessman of Alta Mira Village in the Corozal District. The drugs was found in a compartment under the bedding of the pan for the vehicle. It was well sealed.”

Jules Vasquez,
“It took you all some time to find it?”

Sr. Supt. Paul Wade,
“Yes it took several hours for us to locate the drugs.”

Jules Vasquez,
“This man is from Alta Mira, do you know what type of movement or what type of movement it was – had he picked up the drugs from your intelligence or was he dropping it off? What does your information suggest?”

Sr. Supt. Paul Wade,
“We are investigating all of that but we know that he came from across the border.”

According to the Cayo Star newspaper, the search took four hours. A check of Carlos Jonathan Gibson’s passport showed that he had made a number of trips to the Guatemala.
