A man was injured in a fiery shootout with police last night. It started in Hattieville around 10:30 which is where police say they set up a checkpoint to intercept a suspicious red two door pickup seen travelling from Belmopan. Police say the pickup sped past the checkpoint – almost running over an officer. They set chase which is when officers say what appeared to be an AK-47 was pointed at them.
Shots were fired and the police responded. The vehicle came to a sudden stop near the Hattieville Cemetery and two of the occupants fled. 28 year old Denroy Williams wasn’t as lucky and he was detained by police pending charges of aggravated assault. Police are now seeking the other two occupants who have been identified as Micah Williams Thompson and Shawn Whittaker.
Police add that they found 18 pounds of marijuana by the roadside which they believe was thrown from the pickup during the pursuit.
