Our next story is about a private issue that has become a public embarrassment for 27 year old Tifara Young. The mother of two claims that after filing assault charges against an abusive ex-common-law husband – he has exacted revenge by making public what were the most private moments of their relationship. She claims he has posted explicit nude photos of her on the internet. It is not the type of story that usually makes it on the evening news but tonight it will because according to Tifara she wants her photos off the internet and after complaining to the police and the Women’s Department unsuccessfully, she has nowhere else to turn. She told her story to Keith Swift.
Tifara Young, Violated
“I just want help from the authority.”
Tifara Young wants help removing these nude pictures of her from the internet. While we can only show you parts of two of them, there are actually 17 photos. She claims they were posted by her ex-common law husband.
Tifara Young,
“In December we get into a fight and they charged him for aggravated assault. He asked me constantly to drop the aggravated assault charge and the maintenance charge against him but I refused to. So on Monday the court case came up and I went to court, he didn’t show up, they went through with it, they fined him $500 by April 15th or six months in prison. He found out that I didn’t drop the charges and he went on the internet and posted me on the internet naked.”
Tifara Young says she came to the media because quite frankly she has nowhere else to turn. She went to the Police Department and they were no help. She then went to the Women’s Department and they sent her to us.
Keith Swift,
“You’ve gone to the Women’s Department and what did they tell you?”
Tifara Young,
“They told me that they can refer me to the CIB. I said I already went there and spoke to Mr. Zetina. So they said the next option is the media.”
Keith Swift,
“So there is nobody to turn to?”
Tifara Young,
“Nobody.”
Tifara says she voluntarily took the pictures in 2004 but they were supposed to be private. Now they are public which is why she is going public.
Tifara Young,
“I know it is really shame for you to be on the internet naked and thing. Sometimes when I am riding, how I feel when someone looks at me, I just turn my head because I feel she would say I know she, she is on the internet. So I just feel bad to be riding about and sometimes I only come out at night but when I work I have to come out at day. Most of the time I stay home and when night I come out.
My little cousins who respect me, I feel shame to talk to them on the phone when they call. My kids, every time I look at them I cry because they already know, my kids already know. So I feel bad.”
And according to Young, the pictures are affecting her children and her life. She is appealing to the police or anyone for that matter for help.
Tifara Young,
“I just want for something to be done to Nigel because he is ruining my reputation and he has two kids. He has a little girl and now my son feels shame to even look at his own father. I just want them to do something to make Nigel take my pictures off the internet.
The police, they have power. They told me they would go to his house and take the computer and bring it over to CIB. They didn’t tell me they would search it at his house. They told me they would take out a search warrant and take his stuff and bring it over and they have a computer person there who can look into the computer and that hasn’t been done.”
She has one final caution.
Tifara Young,
“If you are in a relationship, doesn’t matter how good it is, don’t follow my footstep. Do not take those pictures with your boyfriend, it doesn’t care if you are married because when unu break up – unu nuh know what he could do.”
She has a restraining order against her ex. Police meanwhile say there isn’t much they can do. We’ll continue following Tifara Young’s struggle to get her photos taken down.
