Last night we told you about the head of a slaughtered pig that was left on the desk of Edmund Castro’s secretary in Sandhill Village. It was shocking and disturbing and Castro pointed the finger at his political opponents. Castro repeatedly made an oblique reference to a “serial caller on the morning...shows.” He claims that person has bragged about the defacing of bus stops in the area. Well tonight we can tell you that the serial caller Castro referred to is Arthur Saldivar, a PUP political aspirant in Belize Rural North. How do we know? He told us. Saldivar bristled at the suggestion that he had anything to do with the hog head.
Keith Swift,
“Were you behind the placing of this pig head on his desk?”
Arthur Saldivar, Political Aspirant
“Keith to reduce the people’s business to such mindless drivel
and prattle is childish. I would have no part in such an act.”
Keith Swift,
“Are you the serial caller?”
Arthur Saldivar,
“Serial caller? If you take that to mean do I call morning talk shows and make contributions on a regular basis then I do as do many Belizeans.”
Keith Swift,
“So you are the serial caller that Mr. Castro refers to?”
Arthur Saldivar,
“Serial caller, I fail to find any notoriety in such a moniker, it is a mindless, to me, misnomer that is being placed on I believe the right given to all Belizeans by virtue of free media.”
Keith Swift,
“Do you condone what was done, the placing of this head on Mr. Castro’s secretary’s desk?”
Arthur Saldivar,
“I believe I have stated categorically before that in no way would I condone any person expressing their frustrations in such a manner.”
Keith Swift,
“We saw on the bus stop Dread Hog, they say you’re behind that. So I am saying they are saying you’re the obvious culprit. Do you accept that and if so why?”
Arthur Saldivar,
“I am too busy with all manners of the people’s business for me to be engaged in such childish behaviour.”
Saldivar says he was unjustifiably implicated by Castro and is exploring his legal options. Police meanwhile have made no arrests but – as in all cases with all pigs who come to sudden demise – the “big bad wolf” is certainly a plausible suspect.
