A truck driver from Sarawee Village was murdered in hope creek on Thursday night. But the crime wasn’t discovered until Friday afternoon when police say they found the body of 47 year old Guatemalan national Jose Antonio Equiban lying face up under his butane delivery truck.
The truck was oddly parked on the runway at the Forestry Airstrip in Hope Creek Village. He had a gunshot wound to the abdomen and his left leg appeared to be broken. Police suspect he was shot and then dragged under the truck to conceal the crime.
Equiban drove for Kuylen’s Butane Gas Company in Corozal. His boss Joshua Kuylen says the last time he spoke to Equiban was on Thursday. Equiban had sold all of the butane and planned to drive to Corozal on Friday morning to refill his tanker. Kuylen says he became suspicious when Equiban didn’t show up on Friday morning in Corozal to refill the tank. He later got the call that Equiban had been found dead under the truck.
Kuylen says that Equiban would have had about 3 thousand dollars in cash on him and all of it was missing. But Kuylen doesn’t believe robbery was the motive. He suspects it might have been personal. Police say they have detained several persons for questioning.
