Last night on this newscast you saw Valerie Sheran's testament to terror. She's the woman who was stabbed in her midsection by a jealous boyfriend when she was in the last trimester of her pregnancy. She lost the baby and has had to go into hiding because she fears that her ex will now try and finish her off. She got no consolation from police who simply told her to watch the news to see if he's been caught.
Well, she can have some relief tonight as the man accused of doing all this to her, 21 year old Henry Patnett has turned himself into police.
The construction worker of 94 Boots Crescent was charged with attempted murder and 4 other offences when he appeared today in the number one Magistrate's court. Patnett's other charges included aggravated burglary, wounding, and two counts of aggravated assault.
Chief Magistrate Margaret McKenzie explained to him that she would not take a plea from him because the offences will be heard at the Supreme Court. She also explained to him that the court cannot offer him bail because of the nature of the offences. She remanded him into custody until October 27th.
The incident occurred around One Thirty A.M. on August 2nd. Ernesto Ireland, a 70 year old farmer of Blackman Eddy, reported to the police that he was asleep at the house of his girlfriend, 28 year old Valerie Sheran, at 32 Neal Pen Road, when he was awakened by the sound of her groaning. Ireland said when he looked, he saw Patnett making stabbing motions at Sheran. Ireland said when he realized that Sheran was stabbed, he got between her and Patnett and was himself stabbed in his right hand.
It's of note that Patnett was also taken to Belize Family Court for having breached a protection order that was made on June 12th. Patnett handed himself into the Police yesterday.....
