As we've reported, the fourteen year old who was badly burned by a surge of electricity on Friday night in Estrella Village in the Corozal District is at Shriner's Hospital in Galveston, Texas where she is receiving treatment for severe burns to 45% of her body.
She was sent off on Monday morning 60 hours after she was burned - which is a quite remarkable turnaround time considering she didn't even have a passport. And all that was facilitated by Yvette Burks acting on behalf of the Burn Victim Fund. Only thing is the fund didn't have the money, so Burks fronted the nineteen thousand US dollars for the air ambulance personally in the hope that charitable contributions to the fund would compensate her.
But it hasn't been coming in steadily and rhe Tesecum family grateful for the lifeline provided by Burks told Seven News today that they are spearheading fundraising efforts at paying back the hefty sum. It will start tomorrow with a Radiothon. Rainbow radio, 97.7 FM in Corozal will air appeals to the public for help starting at Seven in the morning right up until One P.M. in the afternoon.
Byron Tesecum, the father of Damari says those who are outside of the radio station's frequency and would still like to make a donation, can do so at the Belize Bank, under the account number. 695-11-521-11.
