Shortly after midday today, two armed gunmen held up a pair of gas attendants at the Esso Gas Station on Freetown Road. One of the attendants, who said it was his first time being robbed, told us he was about to deliver his money inside but was delayed by a customer. He said that he had his back turned when he was approached from behind by one of the robbers, when he felt a gun in his back and was robbed of about five hundred dollars both in U.S and Belize currency. The other attendant didn't disclose how much money he was robbed of. We understand that the security cameras at the gas station picked up the robbery but it's unclear whether the faces of the robbers were captured. The manager of the station, who was very upset when we visited, said that the incident makes it about the fifth time that the gas station has been robbed. He refused to comment further because he said nothing has come out of the previous robberies.
