In February of 2008, 7 year old Derricka Castillo was knocked down and killed on her way home from school as was crossing the street near the City Center.

Andrew Craig was driving the car that knocked her down and today his case went before a jury.

And that jury of 5 women and 4 men found the 23 year old not guilty of causing the Derricka's death by careless conduct. The not guilty verdict came after the trial judge had sent the jury back to deliberate for a second time, since they were unable to reach a verdict in initial deliberations that had lasted 3 hours.

Craig testified that he saw about 3 to 4 children about to cross the street when he stopped his vehicle. Craig said he did not see Castillo, and only realized he had hit something when he felt a bump. Craig was represented by Attorney Alifah Hyde, while Crown Counsel Trienia Young represented the prosecution.
