Last week we reported on the detention of two Belizean men by Mexican state police. They were found in possession of firearms licensed for the exclusive use of the Mexican military.
The men, twin brothers from the district of Orange Walk, were arrested along with a Mexican male and female after police responding to a tip, searched a residence in the Villas del Sol division of Cancun. The group of four was found in possession of handguns, a machine gun, and assorted ammunition.
Since last week's arrest, the Belizeans, Hilton Osvaldo Lopez and Walter Antonio Lopez, along with Mexicans Moises Martinez Sanchez and Isabel Rodriguez Zetina have appeared before Mexico's Fifth District Court and formally charged with possession of firearms used exclusively by the Mexican military. The Lopez brothers remain in jail while their case is being prosecuted.
