At the top of the newscast, we showed you the grenade that was thrown but did not detonate. That event sent police riding out on operations to find who had thrown it.

One of the places they went looking was the home of Shelly Meighan -wife of Ellis Meighan who was gunned down in the streets 2 years ago. She said police came busting down her door - in search of her two teenage sons - Tyrone and Ellis Meighan Jr -. According to Meighan, no one was at home at the time - but that didn't stop the police from storming into her house.

Shelly Meighan, claims GSU abuse
"They called me and told me, 'Miss Shelly, Police, GSU, are at your house.' So I called back the same police that I called earlier and asked him to please tell the Gang Unit nobody is in my house, because I didn't want them to go breaking down my door. So he said that he would call immediately. By the time he hung up I called my son and told him that police are at my yard, and he told me that he knew police was there. I called my daugher-in-law and asked her to go check on my house. When she arrived my door was already broken down. They already left; they left with the same young man I left to watch the house, and they said that they beat him bad because he was heard "bawling" from the back. They heard him screaming and shouting for his uncle because uncle lives at the back there. They broke down my entire door. When I came, I decided that I wouldn't go into the housel; I decided that I would leave it as is because I didn't want to come back here from all the way up the road. The Gang Supression Unit went all the way where I was at my mother's house. This something constant; every other weekend, if they don't pick my two sons, they come here and search. I have no problem with them searching my; they could come anytime and I would not give them any trouble. The last time they came and searched my house when I wasn't at home. They picked up my two sons, took them to "Martins", let them go at the back there and told them that this is the last chance for them to live. Another mobile ended up saving my two sons' lives. I didn't do anything about it; all I did was I called Mr. Rivero and I told him what happened. He said that he would look into it. Monica, this is every other week that police come here. They come here, search my house and find nothing. They told my boyfriend to stay home and not to hang out. Everytime they come they find my two boys at home. I am not swearing for my children. A shooting happen up the street, they said that it was a dark skinned person. They still came and held Tyron for 48 hours; now he is red. I don't know if they have a problem with them; yes they used to give a lot trouble, but since their dad died, they slowed down. You don't hear their names calling. The other day they came, they woke them out of their sleep. I asked to officer why he wanted to see them for. He said that they were wanted for a shooting. They came and knocked on the door and asked me where they were, so I told them that they are in the room asleep. They said that nobody was sleeping in this house, so I didn't argue with them. I took them and showed them where my sons were sleeping. They woke them out of bed and told them to get ready, you are going to station because you wanted for a shooting. They took them on the verandah and asked me for my car keys. I gave them my car keys, I explained that the car was not working at that time. They tried to start the engine and nothing happened; they opened the engine and found the batteries cold. They then told them to go back to sleep because it probably wasn't them who did the shooting. They are not showing any kind of example of how to change their lives. I am not saying that they are not doing their jobs, I like what they are doing. But they are abusing it, because look at the state that my house is in. I have to find a door now and I don't know were I get money to find a door at this time. I am trying; I talk to them everyday let them read their bibles, because only God get us out of this, and I believe in God. People see me but they don't know me. It's hard for you to lie your life with your children like that. We are struggling."

According to Assistant Superintendent of Police Mark Vidal -Officer Commanding the Gang Suppression Unit - they acted on information received about the grenade incident and proceeded to search the house of Ellis Meighan. While at the residence, 28 year old Paul Lopez, of the same address barricaded himself inside the house using a refrigerator on the door. He was later found hiding under a bed inside the house. He was detained and is being questioned by CIB. Vidal stated, the only force used was entry into the house.
