Last night we told you about 27 year old Shane Young - a resident of Hattieville - who stole a wallet with 20 dollars at the KHMH. It happened on April 29th while Young was at the hospital waiting for his dialysis treatment. Yesterday when he appeared in Court, the young man explained to the magistrate that he needed the money to pay for his treatment - which was 16 dollars. Today he told 7news his story.

Shane Young

"I had a little incident with another patient beside me where I needed the money for my treatment and I saw the opportunity to take his wallet. But he got back his wallet before I left the hospital. Only $20 was in there."

The young man who suffers from diabetes, kidney failure and a heart condition told us at the time he needed 16 dollars to pay for his dialysis treatment. Money he did not have.

Shane Young
"It was only $16 that I needed and I just saw the opportunity to take his wallet. When I go around begging people they don't believe me in my village. But until they go there and sit down with you and see then they know. I didn't have any money at all. I was in the hospital because I was dehydrated again. Its only one kidney that I have working."

Today he regrets his mistake but says there is nothing he can do - but learn from it.

Shane Young
"I am not working. When you can't work you think about doing other things try to get the money that you need, so I went to do that."

Monica Bodden
"Do you have regrets?"

Shane Young
"Yes, because I had to go through the police process and everybody talk about it. I main problem right now is that I have a hole in my heart that is leaking and I need another surgery for that. Dr. Bulwer at the hospital does all the echo and everything else, so I will find out how urgent I need the surgery. I know it's fast because I went through one already. That is what has me swelling and I get short of breath and I cannot really move how I want to."
