Twenty five year old Gilbert Martinez, who allegedly stabbed 42 year old Labanese labourer Joseph Nikod 5 times in his abdomen, was charged with attempted murder when he appeared today in the Magistrate's Court. Martinez was also charged with dangerous harm and use of deadly means of harm. No plea was taken because the offences are indictable and he was automatically remanded due to the nature of the offences.
The incident occurred around 12:30P.M on April 21. Nikod reported to police that he was walking through an alley near Mayflower Street when he and a young man started to argue. Nikod said the young man pulled out a knife and stabbed him four times. Nikod was admitted to ward at Karl Huesner memorial Hospital in a critical condition and he had to receive surgery to survive.
