There was a serious bus accident before dawn this morning on the northern highway. It happened between miles 64 and 65 at 4:40 am when a Cabrera's bus flipped. 24 passengers were injured and two minors may lose their arms due to injuries they received.
Loaded with 44 passengers, the bus was travelling from Corozal to Belize and violently loss control near the entrance to San Jose and San Pablo.
Police believe that the bus may have either experienced a blowout on its left inner wheel or that, possibly, the driver, 43 year old Pedro Kunuch fell asleep at the wheel.
The two minors were the most seriously hurt. The 11 year old girl and the 12 year old boy both had to be carefully extricated from inside the bus; both their arms were badly damaged.
