A year ago, four men were caught at a Ladyville gas station, going equipped for what appeared to be a major crime. They carried a high powered assault, and a black cap, a black mask, a camouflage mask, three pairs of what police call battle dress uniforms, one roll of duct tape, a GPS device, one underwater flashlight, one cable tie, one compass, 8 transparent gloves and a pair of pliers. Police intelligence suggested that they were going on a major crime - possibly the murder of a prominent individual.
They were all charged and have all been released on bail. Their case was to go to trial today - but it couldn't because one of the accused is dead; the alleged driver was murdered early on Sunday night.
He is FLOYD IFIELD also known as "FLOYD DAVIS", a 47 year old taximan got to his home in Western Paradise at around 11:20 on Sunday night. He parked his Toyota Camry and appears to have been feeding his dog when his common law wife heard three shots. When his family checked outside they saw him lying on the ground with three shots to the head. The disturbing part is that reports suggest he may have decided to turn Crown's evidence in that same case - that means testifying against the other three much younger men who were jointly charged with him.
Now it is not confirmed that he would have been crown's evidence - but it may be why he was killed - a friend did tell us that two months ago, he confessed that he had a feeling someone would kill him soon.
Well, they did so with certainty on Sunday night and police discussed the case:..
Fitzroy Yearwood, Police Press Officer
"We received information that upon his arrival home at around 11:20 on Sunday night, he exited his vehicle and was immediately ambushed. Investigators believed that it's more than one gunmen. He received gun shots to the head, the chest, most of the upper body, he died on the spot. We are looking for a few persons in connection with this incident; hopefully we will be able to make an arrest."

"Same indications suggest that he was indeed the cab driver in an incident which occurred a few months back."

"August of 2010."

"Yes and the court case was up coming. Can you speak to us concerning the investigation?"
Fitzroy Yearwood, Police Press Officer
"Well, what I can tell you is that he was jointly charged with two other persons. He was found in a vehicle with fire arm; they were charged for that, they were supposed to go in front of the court. It is a mere allegation that matter would have stared today. I haven't check with the Magistrate Court to see if that was a fact."
According to his family, he was the father of 35 children. Police have detained for questioning at least one of the other persons caught in that taxi a year ago.
