Nineteen year old Michael Fitzgibbon who was caught with about half a pound of marijuana earlier this year will spend three years in prison and have to pay a ten thousand dollar fine.
That's the sentence handed down by Senior Magistrate Sharon Fraser after he changed his plea from not guilty to guilty midway through the trial.
And while he went straight to jail, he has until December 31st to pay the fine, or he will serve another three years. He was caught on January 21st while riding a bicycle "up-stop" and was stopped by police who searched him. The cannabis was stuffed in a plastic bag concealed in his pants.
But what may have factored into him getting both fined and confined today is the fact that a few weeks ago Fitzgibbon was charged with drug trafficking for cannabis found tucked between a cement block at a home on Dolphin Street.
