A hearing impaired man was knocked down by a bus at mile nine on the Western highway this evening. It happened at a few minutes to six when the man was riding home and he was hit by a Mahogany Heights bus.
He received severe head injury and was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance.
Hattievile Village Chairman Gilbert Domingo told us what he knows of the accident:..

"We heard about the accident just now over the radio and when we reach here I came to have a look into the ambulance because the person was already in there. I saw that it was one of our natives from Hattieville. We know him as Derol. He is a guy that do sand work with the river sand crew from Hattieville. I was just saying to myself that I hope it's not the same guy that got knocked down before only to find out that it is him again."

"So he was knocked down before on this same stretch?"
Gilbert Domingo, Hattievile Village Chairman
"Yes he was knocked down before but not on this stretch but on the Hattieville stretch. This is unfortunate."
Monica Bodden
"Chairman you had a chance to see him while he was in the ambulance?"
Gilbert Domingo
"Yes I did. It seems like he suffered massive head injuries. He was breathing pretty heavy but I didn't notice anything else on his body and stuff just his head that was kind of tear-up a bit."
Monica Bodden
"From the looks of things, you think that he is in a critical condition at this time?"
Gilbert Domingo
"I would think critical but it looks like he is going to recover after a while. But with head injuries, you just can't say because he could look a certain way today and tomorrow lights out so it's kind of sad."
Monica Bodden
"What would you want to say to people who traffic this area - drivers? I know this stretch is pretty dark."
Gilbert Domingo
"We have a lot of people from Hattieville that actually ride every day and so we will just ask the drivers to look for them because little do we know they pop up every now and again and it's unfortunate that some of them doesn't wear their bikes with reflectors and stuff but this is just another sign of you have to have reflectors on your bike and you have to be careful of how you ride."

"Do you know which bus hit him?"
Gilbert Domingo
"I don't know the bus, I just know that it is a green bus up in the front. It seems like the driver is on this side of the road and according to information they say that the guy that got hit was crossing the road from one side to the next when he got hit."
