Last month, we told you all about the 12 hour raid at home of Brian Brown, a reputed boss of the George Street Gang. Today, after five weeks on remand he was granted bail.

As we reported, the GSU conducted a 12-hour search on Brown's home in the Faber's Road area - where they found n assortment of illegal items on the property.

He was eventually arraigned for 8 separate charges. The first 6 were all drug trafficking counts for 800 grams of crack cocaine, plus another 307 grams of crack cocaine totaling about two and a half pounds.

Then there were 110 grams of cannabis, 361 grams of cannabis, 291 grams of cannabis, and 17 grams of cocaine, which police say they found in 6 different areas of the house. He was also charged with one count of possession of a bong, and finally, he was also charge with one count of possession of an unregistered bullet proof vest.

Brown pleaded not guilty to all the charges, but due to the bullet proof vest offense, he could not be granted bail. As a result, He was remanded to prison. His attorney, Ellis Arnold, made a bail application to the Supreme Court on June 15, but Justice Adolph Lucas refused to grant him bail then. However, he did order that at the next adjourned date, Brown's trial must begin.

Today, Arnold went back before Justice Lucas and presented new grounds why Brown should be granted bail this time. Firstly, Arnold pointed out that at the most recent adjourned date of the trial, which was on Tuesday, the Magistrate's Court did not comply with the order that Lucas gave because the prosecution was not ready with their case.

He also pointed out that Brown suffers from repeated attacks of asthma, and it poses a health hazard, and that he has been continuously locked up in isolation.

Presented with these new grounds, Justice Lucas granted Brown bail of $10,000, with the condition that he must surrender his travel documents and report to the police every Tuesday and Friday.

The DPP's office was represented by Crown Counsel Stevanni Duncan.
