Thanksgiving in the US means the cruise tourism high season in Belize - but it seems one cruiser used his visit to Belize as an opportunity to get high!
19 year-old John Webster, an American University Student from Florida, was unable to return on the cruise ship he arrived on because he was busted with marijuana in Belize.
According to police, he came on the Norwegian cruise liner, Dawn, yesterday. He was about to board a boat back to the ship at around 2:30 p.m. when a tourism police, acting on information, searched him before he could leave.
The officer found 8 grams of cannabis in his right front pants pocket, and inside the right pocket, he found a bamboo pipe used for smoking weed.
As a result, Webster was charged with possession of a controlled drug, and possession of a pipe, and he was arraigned before Senior Magistrate Sharon Frazer today.
He pleaded guilty to both charges, and was sentenced to pay fines to a total of $1,600 forthwith. He was able to pay the fine, and he left court a free man.
His family must make flight arrangements for him to return home.
