Right now, there is small contingent of junior athletes who are making their way to Costa Rica to compete in 10th Central American Infant A and Junior C track and field games.
7News caught up with them before they boarded their 5 p.m. flight, and they told us that they are hoping to bring back medals:
Fredrick Evans - Coach

"This is the Junior C Central American Championships. This is for kids, ages 14 and 15 years-old. Shanicka and G'anne are both competing in the long jump, 100 metres, and 150 metres. Shanicka is the reigning triple jump champion for the Junior B, which is from 14-17 for Central America, but at 14 and 15, they don't have triple jump. So, she's only doing the long jump. And Kadean is also primarily a triple jumper. They don't have triple jump in this competition, so he's doing the long jump and the 100 meters. If they don't win medals, they have to walk back. I'm extremely confident that each of them will win at least one medal. And there's a good chance that all 3 of them will win more than one medals."
G'anne Humes - Athlete

"My first trip, I was really nervous, and I came in like 4th or 5th. But for this trip, I'm expecting to place in the top 3. I'm expecting to bring home a gold medal also."
Shanicka Augustine - Athlete

"This is my 5th time, 4 times in El Salvador for all different types of competition levels, but this is my first time in Costa Rica for the Infant A and Junior C competition. I'm going there not too much over my head, but to do my best, bring back 3 gold medals in all 3 of my events, and make my country, Belize, proud."
Kadean Cayetano - Athlete

"This is my first year in track and field, however, I have a lot of experience in track and field because I've been to 4 international track meets so far. I'm very confident in the high jump, and the long jump, however, I've never run a 100 metre race before. But, with the training that I received, I am confident that I can do well."
These athletes are expected to return on Monday.
