And in another story of sexual assault from San Pedro, 33 year old tour guide Demas Mejia was charged with sexual assault for touching a 19 year old woman on her backside.
The incident allegedly happened on the evening of July second. The young woman reported to the police that she told Mejia about money he owed her for food and he then touched her on her buttocks. When she protested, she claims he then slapped her on her buttocks.
When he appeared yesterday before Senior Magistrate Tricia Pitts Anderson. Mejia wanted to plead guilty to the charge. But Senior Magistrate Anderson entered an equivocal plea of not guilty after Mejia told her that at the of the incident he was intoxicated and he cannot recall what happened.
The prosecutor objected to bail, saying that the offence is of a serious nature and has become prevalent. Another ground for objection to bail was for the safety of the defendant who is well known to the complainant and her family.
Senior Magistrate Anderson did not uphold the objections. She offered Mejia bail in the sum of $3,000.
