A Punta Gorda police officer had to move quickly to save his vehicle after someone set it on fire.

Someone threw a Molotov cocktail under Sergeant Joel Grinage's vehicle on Wednesday night but luckily he was able to kick it way before it could completely torch the vehicle.

The Commissioner of police told us more yesterday:

Chester Williams - Commissioner of Police
"Some time around 10pm last night Sgt. Grinage had his vehicle parked in front of his residents in Punta Gorda Town and someone went and dowsed it with gasoline and set it on fire. He was able to quickly react and extinguish the fire. So the vehicle sustained minimal damages."

Jules Vasquez, reporter
"Do you know if this was motivated by his work as police officer?"

Chester Williams - Commissioner of Police
"We think so and we have an individual in custody who we believe is responsible."

PG Police are reviewing surveillance video from a nearby gas station showing a suspect buying gas in same type of bottle used to torch the SUV.
