Some weed smugglers were hoping to use the cover of elections to move some major weight.
But, Police were eon high alert when they found 7 pounds of suspected cannabis in a black Ford Explorer which police stopped at a checkpoint between miles 38 and 39 on the George Price Highway yesterday, just after noon.
When officers searched the vehicle they found three parcels in the spare tire, and another three parcels in the left passenger door panel.
Five persons were in the vehicle at the time: 30-year-old Carlo Moreno, 33-year-old Nina Moreno, 28-year-old Francis Gentle, 29-year-old Elsa Echeverria and 54-year-old Delcia Daniels, all from Corozal. They were all arrested and charged for Possession of Controlled Drugs with Intent to Supply. While being escorted to the police station, Carlo Moreno attempted to bribe the officer with $1,500. He was additionally charged for the crime of Attempt to Corrupt a Public Officer.
