A well-known teacher was shot on Thursday night. 50-year-old Geraldine Reneau was visiting a friend on Faber's Road, but was in the wrong place at the wrong time and sustained a gunshot injury. Her injuries were minor, and police say she was not the target.

Cherisse Halsall:
"The shooting of the teacher Geraldine Reneau, we understand that it was somewhat of a minor incident and that she was shot to the foot."

SUPT Alejandro Cowo, Head CIB, Belize City
"Yes, on that Thursday night just after 7 P.M. she went to visit a friend at Faber's Road Extension, and while they were out in the yard speaking to this friend somebody came and fired several shots in their direction. She was injured and she was treated and discharged on the same night."

Reporter:
"So was it Reneau that was the target or somebody else in that yard?"

SUPT Alejandro Cowo, Head CIB, Belize City
"No, it was somebody else that she was speaking to was the target. What we understand is that earlier during the day, that male person had a confrontation with another person at a Chinese restaurant on Faber's road extension and this is what triggered the shooting to happen in the night."

Reneau declined an interview.
