There was a road traffic accident on Friday night - and while it was not fatal - it has drawn public attention because a government vehicle was involved and it happened right before curfew.
The vehicle flipped after jumping a bump near CET in San Ignacio.
And while it would have been just a tow-away minor incident not very worthy of note, the pickup that on Friday night lay on sideways on Buena Vista Street had blue plates.

"On Friday night, police were called to Buena Vista Street in San Ignacio Town shortly after eleven p.m., where they observed a grey in colour Toyota Hilux overturned on Buena Vista Street. Upon their arrival, they met one Jose Dominguez, forty-two years employee of the Government of Belize; he is an engineer with the Ministry of Infrastructural Development and Housing with minor injuries. As a result, he was escorted to the San Ignacio Community Hospital where samples were taken from him and he was attended to. He claims that he was on his way home on Arenal Road in Benque Viejo Town when he apparently fell asleep and lost control of the vehicle."

"No indication that that government employee was intoxicated?"
ACP Joseph Myvette, Head NCIB
"As a part of the procedure samples were taken from him. We were trying to ascertain whether or not he had permission or authority which he failed to answer us. But we believe that he will be in today where a proper statement will be recorded from him with respect to the accident."
A Press release from the Ministry of Infrastructure, Development, and Housing tonight states quote: "Based on the investigation, the Ministry notes that the public officer involved breached the internal vehicle use policy and therefore intends to write to the Public Services Commission recommending that the public officer be suspended without pay and be surcharged for damages to the vehicle."
They also say that notwithstanding the incident occurring after working hours, the some of the Ministry's technical officers are on call at any time of the night, including weekends, to respond to road-related emergencies. These public officers are assigned vehicles to enable them to perform their duties.
