Switching back to the unions now, the BNTU is hoping that the government will return to the negotiating table with their plan for good governance.
A part of that plan, according to the BNTU, should be the implementation of UNCAC, but as the AG explained last week, UNCAC has already been signed to and the government is committed to enacting the legislation that follows the convention.
But that's not enough for the BNTU because, while they understand it's a process, the president, Elena Smith, says the government is moving too slow.

"We have explained to our members that we know that UNCAC is a process, it happens in phases, we are aware of that. It has been a while now that nothing has happened, that has not been the fault of the union, that has been the fault of the government, they have taken their own time to move the process forward and we are saying enough is enough, you have gotten enough time, you should be further in the process that you are now so let's move that process along."
"There are different kinds of legislation and different kinds will take different time. But we are saying that there are some that can get done right away, within a month you should be able to have something passed already."

"Which ones?"
Elena Smith, President, BNTU
"For example the whistleblowers, the whistleblowers can be dealt with in short order, that wouldn't take long, the asset recovery, elicit enrichment, can be done quickly as well so they can be working on those things and those can be worked on simultaneously."
