Cheat told us today that it is a matter for the police and he would not get involved.
And, so, tonight both Hamid's - Sr. and Jr. are facing charges. Commissioner Chester Williams gave us an update today:
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"Using of indecent words and the manner in which he was behaving, which was in a very disorderly manner, those are offenses and yes, he has been served with his summons to appear in court for using indecent words as well as for disorderly behavior. I will tell you that the behavior of Mister Awe is one that cannot be condoned and the police is taking action against it. From the incident occurred and Minister Chebat spoke with me and his words were that we must deal with the matter. He said that as his driver, he cannot allow his driver to disrespect the police in such a manner and that we must do what needs to be done to address the matter."

"The son, any charges for him and was he let go after a call from the minister?"
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"The son basically was ticketed for not wearing a face mask. That's the offence that he had committed, he was issued his ticket and was released."

"We go back to these culture whereby these drivers, these persons who rubbed shoulders with these ministers and persons in authority, again, they feel embolden, because it's a culture. It happens time and time again, 'mek I just call mi minister friend and he will call police' and these persons do get released."
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"Well the truth is, it is a culture that is going to be here with us for a very long time until we the people must be able to stop it. I say so because if we don't call the politician, then they are not going to call [us]. But it is just this culture that people believe at times that they can do whatever they want to, and they can call the politician and the politician calls to have them released. It is us who determine whether or not we are going to yield to the request or not and so in this particular instance as I said the minister was in no way in support of what the driver did and was one of the first to say that the driver need to be dealt with because that kind of behavior he is not going to tolerate."
According to Minister Chebat's statement - Awe Sr has plans to apologize personally to the Police Officers involved.
Chebat's statement adds, quote, "We must obey the rule of law, and those around us can never feel as if they are specially privileged to act without repercussions."
