An 18-year-old is out on bail after he allegedly knocked down and killed an elderly man.
On Friday night, 87-year-old Thomas "Shugga" Sutherland was leaving Lemonal village and walking to his home just outside the village when he was hit by a motorcycle. The driver stashed the motorcycle about 200 yards away and left Sutherland to die on the side of the road.
Now, Leeron Muslar is facing eight charges relating to the incident. He made an appearance in Belize City's Magistrate court this morning and was represented by Orson OJ Elrington.
After the court session, Elrington laid out the charges that his client was read.
Orson "OJ" Elrington, Attorney
"Today as you know the charges were laid against him in the Magistrate Court."

"Your client was slapped with 8 charges, could you just comment quickly on those 8 charges?"

Orson "OJ" Elrington, Attorney
"Well the charges were manslaughter by negligence, failure to report and accident, causing death by careless conduct, failure to stop and render aid, use a motor vehicle without third party insurance, drove an unlicensed motor vehicle, and used an unregistered motor vehicle, and drove a motor vehicle without due care and attention. So yes there are 8 charges which were laid against him."
"We are obviously indeed waiting for the disclosure from the police, as you know, these rural communities are close knit communities and there are all a regrettable set of circumstances but my client maintains his innocence and so we are just waiting for his trial date which has been sent for August 10th."
No plea was taken from Muslar since it is an indictable offense. He was offered bail of $4,000 with a surety of the same amount.
