Yesterday, the Central Bank of Belize received a disbursement of 500 thousand US dollars for use in the country's ongoing fight against the spread of COVID.
Those funds came from the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI). Each member country of SICA will receive its own disbursement in the same amount.
A press release from CABEI says that that the funds may be used for the purchase of medicine and medical supplies to attend the health emergency; the purchase of food, drinking water, and other goods for primary use required by affected populations; financing of communication campaigns and actions related to the emergency care and affected population; financing to meet the preparation and response plans for COVID-19; financing to strengthen surveillance, to prepare health services, prevent the spread of the virus and maintain essential services; and financing for emergency care of affected populations.
