At the end of January, less than 6 months ago, 38-year-old Jervis Valencia Diamond, a well-known street figure from the Mayflower Street area, was the target of a failed execution attempt life. Tonight, he's recovering from gunshot wounds he suffered a second gun attack.
It happened sometime around 6 a.m. this morning when Diamond was walking near Banak Street. He reported to police that he was exercising when a gunman surprised him and opened fire.
This afternoon, we asked Fitzroy Yearwood, the police department's spokesperson, about this incident during a small briefing held at another event. He told the media that police have already made detentions in connection with this shooting:
ASP Fitzroy Yearwood, Communications Director, ComPol's Office

"We have two persons of concern detained. The incident occurred this morning at about six o'clock. He was walking in the Mayflower [Street] area when he was approached by two armed men who opened fire on him, hitting him in the face. He was transported to K.H.M.H. where he was listed in a stable condition. We have 2 persons detained based on what was mentioned to investigators earlier today. When or whether or not we get that formal statement from him will determine a lot in the way forward for this investigation."
"When it comes to internal problems, when you have a group like this we try our best to find out what is the root of that problem and if you, the victim of that crime, don't give us much to go on then we have to try to put our ears on the ground to see how best we can pick up on that and bring in the necessary agencies to try to work out these problems."

"Is there any insight as to why he was targeted this morning?"
ASP Fitzroy Yearwood
"He was just taking a casual walk because of course he claims that he works out every day and of course of you knew that trouble was coming your way I don't believe you would put yourself in a position to become an easy target."
Our records show that Valencia was also shot in 2015.
