And the 11:00 pm curfew had not set in last night when a group of men had a rough encounter with the police - and one of the men surely thought of Laddie Gillett as he lay on the ground with a gun trained to his back.
A video showing the officers detaining five men surfaced on social media last night, but no guns were fired, and the police say the men after had fled police and were resisting arrest so force was needed to detain them.
But while ComPol Chester Williams chastised Channel 7 last night for what he said was this newsroom wrongly accusing officers of police brutality, he might have saved some of his sharp words of caution for his own officers who were seen roughing up handcuffed men and then slapping a phone out of a civilian's hand. It was so disturbing that the ComPol himself made a comment on the video. Courtney Menzies has a breakdown of that video posted on Facebook.
The police have so far made no comments on the beating of the individuals.
