





The last two months have been cruel to kids, with a total of eight minors being killed by gun violence. It started with the bullet that took 14-year-old Laddie Gillett's life in Placencia. Another 14-year-old, Kwame Williams, was killed not too far away in Dangriga Town. Most recently, 15-year-old Dwayne Gabourel was gunned down in Belize City. The city also saw the killings of two 17-year-olds, Sherane Cardenas and Michael Henry, and 16-year-old Shamar Nicholas. And in Cayo, the youngest victim to be lost to gun violence was 9-year-old Jamir Mckoy. And finally a 15-year-old, Niccanor Fermin, was also found dead in Ladyville.
Two of these shootings were by police officers, and one was the result of domestic violence. Most of the others were innocent casualties in gang war plaguing the streets.
