And while C.E.O. Cansino is seeking a better understanding with the KHMH's Union, the government of Belize is trying to achieve the same with migrants that they say were, quote: "thrust into an irregular situation due to the COVID 19 pandemic."
Now the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade, and Immigration services is inviting migrants who seek to remedy their "irregular" situations to visit the nearest immigration office.
It's a call to migrants who entered Belize legally and who require visa extension to remain. The plan is to institute a regularization period that will run from October 1, 2021, through December 31, 2021. The Ministry also says that quote: "Migrants who seek to regularize themselves may utilize this period of regularization as a prerequisite to apply for Permanent Residence if they so desire." End quote.
The Ministry says that they will waive Visitor's extension permits for the period of March 1, 2020, to September 30, 2021 but that outstanding fees prior to March 1, 2020 will be BZ$50 per month for the first six months, thereafter BZ$100
Details of the regularization are available on the Ministry of Immigration's new website: immigration.gov.bz.
