Last week, we told you about the bizarre murder of Geoffrey Crawford, a 69-year-old Belizean retiree who lived near the Crooked Tree area.
As we told you, the senior citizen was assaulted by 2 men, who then used his vehicle to escape from his home with his body last Wednesday morning. The culprits tricked an area resident into helping them to jump-start Crawford's vehicle so that they could drive off. That resident spotted Crawford with severe injuries on the backseat, and he immediately called the cops.
As we showed you, that led police to actionable intelligence, and by the following day, they discovered his body and his vehicle deep inside a private property in the Biscayne Village area. Last Friday, only one day after the discovery of Crawford's body and his vehicle, investigators made a swift arrest.
The first person who they are accusing of committing this crime is 41-year-old Maurice Usher Jr., a construction worker from Belize City.
This afternoon, the media asked the police spokesperson for some insight into the case. Here's what he had to say:

ASP Fitzroy Yearwood, Communications Officer
"The death of Mr. Jeffrey Crawford had occurred on Thursday 29th of September 2021, on Friday the 1st of October police formally arrested and charged Maurice Usher, 41 years Belizean construction worker from a Belize City address for the crime of murder. We are looking for other people of interest in connection with this murder and hopefully, as soon as their detained we will be able to process what charges they will receive, no. We believe that Mr. Usher did not act alone in the committing of this crime."
"As you know, this whole process of Post-mortem has been slowed down a little because of our recent deaths."
"We are following several angles for this crime that of course in that zone doesn't normally take place. It's for the most part that the area is peaceful and when something like this occurs. We have to question the various angles why. I know that investigators are closest to ruling the motive but I wouldn't want to say that that is the motive until I get that from them and I definitely will relay that to you. I believe that as soon as the postmortem results are available I will send that to you no matter what hour it is."
This evening, Maurice Usher was arraigned before Senior Magistrate Tricia Pitts-Anderson on a single charge of murder.
No plea was taken from him and due to the nature of the offense, no bail could be granted. He was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until December 6, 2021.
