And yesterday in the capital, 49-year-old Camalote resident Orlando Pascasio was caught with over 11 pounds of suspected cocaine - which has a street value of close to a hundred grand.
The bust was made at about 4:20 p.m. on Trinity Boulevard when the businessman's vehicle was stopped and searched. That's when officers discovered a white cooler with 5 cocaine brick inside.
The COMPOL didn't want to say much about it today - only that it may have come from a wet drop in the south:
Chester Williams - Commissioner of Police
"We believe that those drugs that were found yesterday may be connected to some wet drop in the southern part of Belize and there are other persons we're looking at and other things we're doing, I'm not going to go into details now, because it may jeopardize what they're trying to achieve but yes we did have that bust yesterday of 5.3 kilos of cocaine and the persons concerned should be taken to court sometime today, here in Belmopan."
Pascasio was formally arrested and charged for the offense of possession of a controlled drug with the intent to supply to another. As you heard, he was arraigned in the Belmopan Magistrate court today where he pleaded not guilty. Bail was denied and he was remanded to the Kolbe Foundation until December 20th, 2021.
