2 immigration officers from the PGIA have reportedly been detained for questioning after allegation were made that they had extorted tourists out of $5,500 US dollars.

Two Jamaican tourists came into the country today and were reportedly taken by the officers into separate rooms for questioning. The officers searched their backpacks and allegedly took $3,000 US from one and $2,500 US from the other. According to a source, the officers did not tell the tourists why they were taking the money nor did they issue a receipt. The source says the money the tourists brought was for their vacation. Late reports say travellers have been detained for immigration irregularities at the Ladyville police station.

*An earlier version of this story said Immigration officers had been detained - that was inaccurate and the story has been modified to say travellers were detained.
