And while the ComPol says an officer driving under the influence won't be tolerated, if it is discovered that he was drinking, he may end up facing dismissal. That's because the commissioner isn't playing games with officers who break the law. Today he told the media that 40 officers have been dismissed this year, including well known names such as Corporal Kareem Martinez, who fatally shot 14-year-old Laddie Gillett back in July. He listed off a few more today during his press conference.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"I can tell you that Cpl. Martinez who was involved in the fatal shooting of Laddie Gillett, he has been dismissed via our tribunal process. I can tell you that PC Cantun who was involved in drug trafficking, he has been dismissed by way of the tribunal process. I can tell you that WPC was suspected of the fatal shooting of Fared Ahmad, she has been convicted in tribunal and dismissed. I can tell that PC, who was accused of touching the female in Succotz police station, but he too has been convicted at tribunal and dismissed. I have spared nothing to make sure that officers who stepped out of line are dealt with to the full extent of our

disciplinary process, even in situations where the adjudicators did not recommend dismissal doe to the nature of the infraction committed, the police act empowers the commissioner to review and if the commissioner is not satisfied with the decision made by the adjudicator, the commission has the power has the power to up the penalty and that is what I did in 3 of those 4 cases, because dismissal were not recommended, but despite that after having reviewed I am of the belief based on the evidence that the offences committed by these police officers was so grave that warrants a dismissal and so we went ahead and dismiss."
The name of the officer the ComPol couldn't recall is PC Edgar Teul, who was accused of sexually assaulting a 19-year-old woman back in January of this year.
