And while the cops and the coast guard have "broken bread" and are working on rebuilding mutual trust, the BPD is hoping to regain the trust of the public. It's hard when in the past month we've seen five cops charged with conspiracy to land a plane and one charged for having ammunition. But the ComPol says even while they weed out the dirty cops, the good ones still deserve to be acknowledged for their hard work.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"It is frustrating because it should be that way. I think the fact that we would have made such a success and have police officers who are involved caught and will be allowed to go before a court system to be held accountable, should be seen as a plus for us. It shows that we are not covering the illegal actions of our own, but rather we are dealing with them just as we are dealing with any ordinary person. So while yes the public at times came down very hard on us and criticized us, I think that it should be the reverse, we should be commended."
