And while those photos won't be used as evidence that the men were definitely hunting that weekend, the police have their own evidence to suggest that they were involved in the plane landing. Of course, they couldn't go too much into detail, but the cops say that in this case they will be using circumstantial evidence to tie the hunting crew to the drugs.
ACP Alford Grinage, Commander Operations:
"There's additional evidence that we can't disclose that we've obtained that link the guys, the claimed-to-be hunters, to the landing."
Reporters:
"So prosecutors will rely on circumstantial evidence in this yes?"
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"Yes of course."
Courtney Menzies:
"But how confident are you because according to one of the attorneys yesterday, he said the men were found I believe like 12 miles away from the plane. So how confident are you that you can stick this conspiracy to land a plane charge on them?"
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"You think the attorney is going to say anything to make his client look bad? I'm an attorney as well and I wouldn't. They have a job to do. They don't want to seem by their client not to be doing their work."
Jules Vasquez:
"But sir, the distance is a material fact."
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"Do you have to be present at a location to commit a crime and are you going to remind at the crime scene to be caught there? How many persons have we not convicted for murder who are found days after the murder, thousands of miles from where the murder occurred? Come on, you don't have to be found at the location where the crime is committed for you to be convicted. When a burglar goes to your house and steal, takes your property and go, very rarely police find them at the crime scene. Investigation would lead the police to you and then you would be arrested."
Courtney Menzies:
"Sir but the burglar, either they'd be found with the items, they'd be found on camera, there would be eyewitnesses but in this case, they weren't found with the drugs, their weapons, I believe were all licensed, they were found miles away. It seems like a very difficult charge to stick on them."
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"Courtney, in law the two best evidence are direct evidence, which is eye seeing, and circumstantial evidence. We're not trying the case here but I'm telling you we have circumstantial evidence with the plane landing and I'll end there."
