But, one thing he doesn't have to worry about is being convicted - because his fiancee has sworn in a statement that she will drop the charge. But, as we already told you, the Commissioner of police is sticking to his hardline - she has to tell it to the judge.
That will be an academic - if somewhat embarrassing matter before the courts - but it will pass.
But, by his insistence, the commissioner is inflicting a perhaps fatal blow to Faber's political career. And that's why we asked him today - whether he was advancing an agenda:
Jules Vasquez
"Are you concerned it may be interpreted that because you are pursuing this as you are lawfully obligated to do and not conforming to the historical status quo that you the pursue a PUP agenda?"
Chester Williams - Commissioner of Police
"If one may want to say pursue a PUP agenda I don't know how this could be a PUP agenda because if it is the allegation made by Ms. Arnold is true, it was not the PUP that sent Mr. Faber to beat her up, that's a choice that he would have taken if the report is so. So at the end of the day, the only agenda we're pursuing is the agenda of making sure that in fact what she alleged occurred that he face the law like any other person and simple as that."
Jules Vasquez
"Sir would you go through what is the standard procedure in arraignment in these matters? We know if it is a domestic case, your not taken to the court like persons accused of other crimes against property etc. What will be standard arraignment procedure as it pertain in this case?"
Chester Williams
"Well we're not going to do anything to embarrass the leader of the opposition, we're going to treat him with the level courtesy we can afford to him. I know for a fact the charges have been prepared and we are just awaiting for him to go in and once he goes in, he will be served with the charges and go straight to court. It's a matter for the court to decide whether or not they will grant him bail but we're not going to do anything to try and embarrass him further than what is already taken place."
Jules Vasquez
"One feels that perhaps issuance of a warrant which is a huge headline for the leader of the opposition was a bit much perhaps it could have been handles another way, you said his attorney called you, his attorney said he would bring him in, man it can be argued you never had to issue a warrant for the arrest of the leader of the opposition. How do you respond to that?"
Chester Williams
"Jules Vasquez, by law we have to issue an warrant for every person who is arrested by the police upon the complaint of a member to public. So, even if you go to the police station right now and you report that Aaron Humes has assaulted you, we have to issue a warrant for the arrest of Aaron Humes, it is standard procedure in every case where the public is the complainant, a warrant is always issued, it is the purpose of a warrant in the first instance, so it is not unusual that this done, it is by law what we must do."
