And what the police say they must do - came out of what happened yesterday at the Domestic Violence Unit at the Queen Street station. While Faber and his fiancée make their protestations about this being a matter they wished to handle privately - once Dr Arnold went to the DVU - that propelled it into the public sphere.

Our news cameras were there to see most of it unfold in real time. Here's a recap of those almost 5 hours of news surveillance that Cherisse Halsall conducted while Dr. Shanika Arnold sat inside the Domestic Violence Unit at the Queen Street police station:

It was a full-on stakeout at the Queen Street police station yesterday. With 7news and eventually the entire Press corps waiting with bated breath for the fiancee of Leader of the Opposition Patrick Faber to emerge from the Domestic Violence Unit.

It all started around noon when we got news that Arnold, the fiancee who had allegedly been assaulted with a hammer by Faber, had sought medical treatment and was in the process of filing a complaint.

That's when we set up camp outside the Queen Street station's gates in an attempt to await either the complainant or her attorney's exit. And while we wouldn't see Arnold

We did Patrick Faber's vehicle, a Chevy Suburban that we now know to have been her getaway car.

Also seen at Queen street was her attorney David Morales

And minutes later the Secretary-General of the UDP Carol Babb who we heard asking to see Dr. Arnold. She is known as a Faber ultra-loyalist.

But after hours and hours at the gate. We still had no sign of the complainant, Dr. Arnold

And none would come until the middle of the news hour when only Krem's news cameras captured these images of Arnold's attorney's vehicle quickly driving away.

And tonight with a warrant out for his arrest Faber is on the run, a seeming fugitive from the law who has been instructed to hand himself over into police to face arraignment before the court.
